ERDF-funded development projects

Novellop Technologies is carrying out two research and development projects funded under the EFRE/JTF NRW 2021–2027 program. The projects focus on the fields of terrestrial photovoltaics and space technology, each pursuing specific technological approaches.

Technology development for the next generation of solar cells

Novellop Technologies is a research and development company based in Aachen that specializes in advanced photovoltaic technologies. We are working on two parallel lines of development: SiGe:C quantum well solar cells for terrestrial applications and ultra-lightweight perovskite solar cells for space applications.

MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT

Development and characterization of multilayer structures with tailored optical and electrical properties.

PROCESS INTEGRATION

From laboratory samples to scalable manufacturing concepts. Selection of substrates and optimization of process parameters.

PROTOTYPE CONSTRUCTION

Mechanical integration, electrical wiring, and testing under simulated operating conditions.

PARTNER NETWORK

Coordination between academic partners and industrial companies in Germany and Europe.

Current ERDF-funded projects

Both development projects are funded by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Union under the ERDF/JTF Program NRW 2021–2027.

InnoZell

Development of SiGe:C quantum well solar cells with multilayer structures deposited by PECVD.
Multilayer semiconductor structures made of silicon, germanium, and carbon expand the absorption spectrum of conventional silicon cells. Our goal: over 30% efficiency while reducing costs through simplified process control.

Funding: Grüne Gründungen.NRW
Duration: February 2025 – January 2028

PeroSat

Perovskite solar cells on shape-memory substrates for satellite applications. A collaborative project coordinated by the University of Wuppertal.
Flexible, foldable solar modules with an extremely high power-to-weight ratio enable drastically reduced transportation costs for space missions.

Funding: GreenEconomy.IN.NRW
Duration: October 2025 – September 2028
